I prayed for a Kitty today
by pedal power inme and my wife,a non jw,took her 3 year old country cat to see the vet in edinburgh, i left her at the vets with the cat and went to work, i gave her 20 pounds and told her to get a cab into town to meet me at work.
the vet removes the chicken bone from the cats throat,{the little bastard stole it ,when we were not looking} anyway she gets a bus with cat into town, cost only 1 pound, she does not get cab she keeps 19pounds.
typical, only the cat manages to wriggle out the basket,on princess street, terrified runs helter skelter accross 2, 4 lane highways, avoiding buses taxis, ect, my wife terrified screaming down the phone at me,to come and protect and save her beloved cat.f__k ,my whole world was collapsing before me, i prayed that kitty would live, my wife is sensitive, and she would have been inconsolable had the kitty died on her watch, so i ran out of work, drove through red lights, and prayed, that the little cat survived.

What would you do in my situation, if you knew that leaving would slowly kill one of your most beloved people?
Only you are in a position to answer that question Lazarus.
No one here has the right to criticise your decision.

Lazarus, an interesting post. I can understand why you come to that conclusion.
The problem is that the WT and its adherents, are manipulators.
Stay with us or else...etc
That is wicked. But many who come here dont know how to deal with that.
Would it be the right thing for a wife to stay with a manipulating husband, because if she left him, he would try and make her life worse? or would it be better for her to leave, and then try and get her life back together?
Many who come here, are trying to get their life back together, and then they move on.
Hospitals are full of sick people. This forum "is full of sick" people. They are here for help. They will move on.They will cope. They'll probably not post here anymore. You will never know that they have won out.
Staying in a manipulating, abusive situation, just to keep the peace is NEVER a good thing.

Many of us can understand your feelings.
However, if you have posted them here, its because you dont really want to do that.
Snowbird was right when she said:
You are loved and valued.
Do not allow the WT to take that away from you.
Dont let the WatchTower win. Come back fighting.
Snowboard felt the same a couple of months ago. Now his life has changed.....remarkably. Everything is possible.

I hate JW jargon!!! (Alternatives please!)
by VampireDCLXV inall of us who have any ties to the jws know that they have their own vernacular, their own slang.
sure, there are formal titles that we can't really get away from: pioneer, ministerial servant, elder, ______ overseer, governing body, the (watchtower) society, etc.
but there are plenty of other bits of parlance they use that i can do without.... for example:.

European Court to favor the WT and condemns the French goverment
by Nick! inthis news was announced today on the journal "le monde": http://www.lemonde.fr/societe/article/2011/06/30/temoins-de-jehovah-la-cour-europeenne-des-droits-de-l-homme-condamne-la-france_1543102_3224.html#xtor=rss-3208.
unfortunately, the european court of human rights has just condemned the french government against jehovahs witnesses.
if you recall, the french state was claiming 23 million euro (abt 33 million us dollars) taxes on contributions received by the french watchtower during the years 1993-96, which, by now, had climbed to about 58 million euro (abt 83 million us dollars) counting interests and charges.. it is not easy to size the wt.

Hi Band OnThe Run.
Is there a reason france is at the forefront? Why not Holland, Denmark, or Germany?
The French government has lots of legistlation. I guess they try to protect naive/gulible people, and there are certainly many people taken in by dubious profiteers. So, many things are regulated in French life.
One example among many:
there are many who have log fires in France. Now we know that it is strongly advisable to have the cheminey swept each year. But for various reasons people dont always do it, with a risk to life and property.
So, legally,in France, you are obliged to have it done, and have a certificate to prove it each year. But to prevent just anybody writing out a certificate, it has to be by an officially recognized cheminey sweep, who is trained, and passes a training course regularly. So his work is, theoretically, well done. If you have a fire, and cannot prove that you have had the cheminey swept, then the assurance does not pay up.
Another example: many like so called relaxing massages today, style shiatsu. But in France, only trained, certified physiotherapists can say they give massages. ( a fine of 2000dollars and 5 years in prison could be the price to pay if you say you give relaxing massages, foot massages etc when you are not a physiotherapist). Again, extreme, but could sometimes protect some from dubious massagers who could do more harm than good.
OK. its a way of " protecting" people. Maybe a bit extreme by some standards, but that is their culture. They do it in so many aspects of life.
So, religious sects are the same. The government warn people of dangers of sects. And there are dangers. Many on the forum would testify to that.
Jehovahs Witnesses are not singled out. But they are perhaps one of the more powerful groups.
One of the things the government warns about is their tendance to issolate their children and prevent them from knowing other religious beliefs.
So, in brief, it is a part of French culture, that has nothing to do particulally with religion, but found in many aspects of every day life.
I hope that my explanation helps understand a little of this typically French culture. Sometimes French people think it is a good thing, sometimes they dont like it.
I guess the French government is a little like an overly protective parent. It can sometimes seem a bit much, but their intentions are good.

Would you call this a sign?
by Lunatic Faith insince i decided to leave off being a jw i have been pursuing an interest in new age/celtic religion.
i don't want anything to do with christianity any more, but don't have enough knowledge yet to completely abandon all belief in god.
i am also averse to accepting this life is all there is since i spent half of it wasting my time as a jw.. anyway, i have found a local coven that is looking for new members and is willing to train anyone who is new.

In Steve Hassans book, combatting cult mind control, he speaks about what he considered a sign, and that to join the Moonies.
I think, as humans, we LOOK for signs: example, who hasn't thought at one time in their lives, if a certain thing happens then that means I should.....etc.
So, in answer to your question, no I dont think it was a sign, just a coincidence.

The French government, has taken upon itself, to warn people of the dangers of sectes/cults.
They direct people to relevent literature exposing dangers.
There are works cited from ex jehovahs witnesses, some of which have been pursued in justice by the WT$, until now without success, I believe.
Here is the link to the list of possibly "dangerous" sectes, in the view of the government:
http://www.info-sectes.org/masques/sectes.htm
and the page ( in French) on the beliefs of Jehovahs witnesses.
http://www.info-sectes.org/tj/index.htm
There is a link explaining, rather well, the psychology used by the JWs and how to combat it.
This is considered, by French people, rather like the warnings on a packet of cigarettes.
Afterwards, you smoke if you want to. Its up to you. But at least you have been warned.
The sects do not like this information, and take legal action, crying abuse of freedom etc.
Its a normal reaction. But as ex-jws, we would agree that the information given is indeed correct.

According to the French newspaper Le Figaro, the tax office wants to tax, at a rate of 60%, the recepts of the WT$ between 1993 and 1996.
60% was the higher rate income tax rate at that time, and 60% cannot possibly = more than the total assets, because it is only 60% of income.
60% today is a high rate, but was the rate that others paid at that time.
The tax office considers the WT$ as a business, and wants to tax them accordingly.

The French government, dispite critism, often shows itself to be very lucid.
For example, they have been refusing aumonary visits to JWs, something that they ( WT$) have been contesting in the courts.
However, a spokeman for the prison authoritys stated:
Prisoners are often emotionally in a weak state. But these are the very type of people that Jehovahs Witnesses prey on. That is why we do not grant aumonary visits to the WT$
We KNOW that that is true. However, the French government risks losing its case, because of the "religious freedom" clause.
